Somatic Coaching for Parents in Athens, GA and online

As loving parents who have read the parenting books, listened to the podcasts, and taken in the latest advice from the parenting ‘experts’, we know exactly how we want to show up for our kids.

We know that we want to hold space for their big feelings, accept and support all the parts of them (even the ‘tricky’ parts), prioritize connection, and set healthy boundaries.

But in spite of all of the late-night reading, strategizing, and very best of intentions, why is it still so hard to embody that parent we want to be in the moment?

And why is it so hard to put all that we know in our heads about parenting into actual practice?

How Coaching works

Because so often our reactions in real time with our kids are not determined by what we know in our ‘head-brains’. They are in-the-moment responses of our bodies and nervous systems…our ‘belly-brains’.

As humans, we all have unconscious stored energy in our bodies and nervous systems that our kids are so good at ‘waking up’. And that’s what they are meant to do!

If we have the support that we need, we’re able to allow our own feelings (that ‘stored energy’) to come up and out, and to be celebrated (especially those big feelings like rage, desire, pride, grief and wild joy that may have been shamed in the past). And once that energy is freed up, we can turn around and do the same for our kiddos!

But if we don’t have that support person, we can end up shaming our own feelings, which often show up as a very natural fight or flight response, during tricky situations with our kids. We may squash that energy back down where it continues to be stored to come right out again the next time we are activated.

Relational, body-based coaching can help you…

  • recognize and celebrate your ‘inner knowing’ (aka ‘belly brain’) around what is right for you and your child(ren)

  • have a place to bring ALL of your feelings so that you can turn around and offer more of the same to their kids.

  • learn playful, embodied practices to feel more supported and grounded in the day-to-day.

  • nurture your Inner Child through ‘redos’ that mimic the Parent-Child or Parent-Infant Dance.

  • make the shifts that you are longing to make but have been feeling ‘stuck’.

  • more fully live out the life you envision for yourself.
